It’s a well-known fact that I love writing about all the lovely skincare products I’ve been using. And today I thought it was about time I put together a post on my current morning skincare routine. At the moment I’m using some really great products, and they’re quite a mixed bag of both drugstore favourites and high-end products.
I’ll bundle up products into sections according to how I use them. So there’ll be a section of products I use every day, a section of products I use once a week, and a section of products I use as and when needed. I hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions about any of the things I use, please feel free to ask and I’ll answer them as best as I can.
DAILY
OK, so let’s start with the things I use on a daily basis. I’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised for as long as I can remember. But over the years I’ve added some extra steps to my morning skincare routine: using a serum, an eye cream, and, of course, an SPF!
Cleanse: I start my day by cleansing with NSPA’s Deep Cleansing Face Wash. I discovered this around Halloween last year, and I’ve been using it ever since. I think that’s a real testament to how good it is! The face wash is a foaming one, so it works really well alongside my Foreo Luna Mini 2*.
I give the bottle a good shake, pump 1-2 pumps of the product out onto my hand, and massage it into my face and neck, before turning on my Foreo Luna Mini 2 and gently gliding it in circular motions over my face for one minute. The device vibrates at 15-second intervals, so I usually start on one side of my face, then move it across to the opposite side when I feel it buzz. I then move on to my T-Zone and finish with my chin. After one minute the pulsations will pause 3 times in succession to signify the end of the cleansing routine. I then rinse my face with some tepid water and pat dry, ready to apply the rest of my skincare products. If you’d like to find out more about the Foreo Luna Mini 2, you can check out my review by clicking here.
NSPA’s Deep Cleansing Face Wash is chock full of fantastic ingredients, such moisturising Ginseng, Avacado, Apricot, Vitamin E and essential oil of Neroli, which helps to purify the skin as well as softening it. And I can promise you that if you give this product a try you won’t be disappointed with how lovely and soft it will leave your skin feeling!
I mentioned before that I first picked up this product around Halloween last year, and I’ve just started my 3rd bottle of it. I find a little bit really does go a long way with this product. The only downside for me is that it’s only available to buy from ASDA, so I have to go out of my way a little to pick a bottle up. It would be nice if NSPA started selling on their website, or maybe even in Boots or Superdrug. I’m sure if their other products are as good as this one that they’d sell really well in the drugstore!
Tone: Next up I use a toner to lift any dirt that cleansing may have missed. At the moment I’m using Naobay’s Calming Face Toner, which I discovered a couple of years ago when I was a Glossybox subscriber. Don’t worry though, this isn’t the same toner that I received in my Glossybox – I’ve actually repurchased this a couple of times over the years.
I apply the toner with a cotton pad, and I love how soothing it feels on my skin. It has a very light, citrus scent to it, which I’m loving now the sun has finally come out – it makes me feel very summery! If you’re not usually into scented facial products I’d still recommend giving this a try as it’s not at all overpowering. The toner is enriched with a gentle formula of Chamomile and Gotu Kola, and if I’m ever having a day where my skin is looking red and blotchy this most definitely cools my skin down and helps it look a lot better. I love it!
Serum: The next product I apply during my morning skincare routine is my serum. And at the moment I’m back using my all-time favourite one – Firm, Baby, Firm from Bliss. I like this particular serum as it makes my skin look and feels a lot firmer than usual, which is something I’ve been in need of since Oscar decided he didn’t need sleep! My skin was looking very saggy and dull, and I just hated it. Firm, Baby, Firm has most definitely helped improve the overall appearance of my skin since I’ve been using it again, and for that, I’m very thankful.
I use the serum by pumping out 2-3 drops onto my fingers and then smoothing it over my face and neck. This is the only product from my morning skincare routine that I use in the evening too. I’m just gutted that I’ve almost run out and need to replace it as it’s quite pricey at £59.50 for 30ml! I definitely think it’s worth the money though as it works brilliantly.
Moisturise: Once the serum has dried I follow it with my moisturiser. And, again, I’m back to using one of my all-time favourites – Simple’s Kind To Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturiser. I think I first started using this when I was in my late teens, and I’m now in my early 30’s, so you can tell how much I love this stuff with how often I go back to using it.
Simple’s Kind to Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturiser is super affordable at just £4.29, and it contains a blend of multi-vitamins and skin-loving ingredients to keep the skin lovely and soft and smooth. Basically, it’s full of ‘simple’ goodness! I like that this moisturiser is fragrance-free, as a lot of similar products tend to be heavily-scented, which I hate. And it feels great on my skin. As we approach summer, I’ll likely switch to the light version of this cream, which is just as good, but better for the warmer months when you don’t want anything too heavy sitting on your skin.
I apply my moisturiser by smoothing it gently into my face and neck using an upward and outward motion, and I find it keeps me nice and hydrated throughout the whole day. I think everyone should try this moisturiser at least once!
Eye Cream: OK guys, I have a little confession to make now. If I’m in a hurry when I’m applying my morning skincare I sometimes skip applying my eye cream. Eek! I know that’s not good as I already have more puffiness and wrinkles under my eyes than anywhere else, but I do. I need to try harder from now on to make sure I apply it every day.
So, what eye cream do I use? It’s the First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy. I love this particular eye cream because it’s like a cream and a concealer in one. And who doesn’t love a good, multi-tasking product?! It’s really easy to use, although it can get a little messy if you apply too much (hence why I don’t use it if I’m in a rush). On one side of the tube is a little hole which you gently squeeze the product out of, then you dot it from the inner to the outer corners of your under eyes. You then flip the product over, and on the other side is a metal applicator which mimics the shape of the pinkie finger, and you use this to blend the product out in a circular motion. And because the applicator is metal, it really cools down the under eye area and reduces puffiness.
I think this eye cream works really well, and I find that it covers my dark circles fantastically because it’s a salmony colour. However, I use the lightest shade, which is fair to medium, and I wouldn’t be able to use this if I wasn’t wearing makeup as it’s a little on the dark side for me and definitely needs covering with foundation. I’d love First Aid Beauty to come out with a lighter shade for us pale faced ladies! But on the whole, I love it as it works really well so I can’t complain.
Protect: And the final product I use every single day without fail is The Body Shop’s Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence, which is a very light moisturiser that contains SPF 50. I think it’s so important to protect our skin from sun damage, even when we can’t see it, which is why I’ve gotten into the habit of applying this every day.
The product itself is quite runny, so I have to take extra care when I squeeze it out of the tube to apply it. And it has a lovely, subtle suncream scent to it. It’s really lightweight, and it absorbs into the skin really quickly, so it doesn’t really feel like much of an extra step, to be honest. I also find it brightens up my skin no end, which is a bonus. And at £16 for 40ml it doesn’t break the bank. I’m so happy I found this product. Thank you, Body Shop for making such a fab SPF for us beauty addicts!
WEEKLY
The next few products in my skincare routine are things I use on a weekly basis. Although I may use them a little more often if I’m having a bad skin week!
Exfoliator: Once a week, after cleansing, I use Amie’s New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish to give my skin an extra deep clean. I absolutely love this stuff! It smells good enough to eat and is chock full of natural plant extracts that help keep the skin clear and radiant.
The exfoliating beads in this are quite small compared to the ones in other products I’ve used, but it’s just ‘scrubby’ enough to cleanse deep down and bring up any dirt, grime and dead skin cells that my cleanser may have missed, without being too harsh on the skin.
Amie products are aimed at younger girls than myself, and I actually pinched this product from my daughter, Stacey, as she doesn’t like exfoliators. But it worked well for me so I’d most definitely repurchase it. And of course, with it being aimed at a younger audience, it’s super purse-friendly at just £5.95 for 100ml. (The one pictured above is a travel sized one). The Amie website also states that this is good for oily or combination skin, and I have normal to combination, so I’d agree with that statement. It’s an all-round great scrub that I’d highly recommend trying.
Masks: I have to admit that I have a little bit of a face mask obsession. My bathroom cupboard is literally bursting with them. I’d most definitely struggle to use just one until it’s all been used up like I do with all my other products. And today I thought I’d talk about the three masks I’ve recently been reaching for the most.
First up is my ultimate favourite: The Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. I’m not going to lie – it looks foul. But, My God, does it smell delicious! This charcoal face mask is quite scrubby, so it draws out any impurities and refines the appearance of pores for healthy-looking, glowy skin. I like that it goes lighter as it dries, so I know when it’s ready to take off, and my skin always looks radiant when I’ve used it. I love it and plan on trying some of the other masks from this range soon.
I’ve recently been trying out Dr Organic’s Organic Dead Sea Mineral Bio-Plasma Mud Mask*, and so far I really like it. I don’t really feel like it applies as well as some of the other masks that I use, but it feels nice and cooling on the skin, and has a light, pleasant scent to it. I can definitely see a difference in how my skin looks and feels after using it, and I’ll definitely keep using it for now. But I’m not sure whether or not I’ll bother repurchasing it once I’ve run out.
And finally, I’ve been using another product from Amie: their Spring Clean Deep Cleansing Mask! This one is a clay mask, and it works fantastically to draw out dirt and impurities from the skin, as well as leaving my skin feeling nice and cool. It also seems to mattify my skin, so I love using this one before a night out, or special event. It smells great too. Kind of minty and zesty at the same time. Yum!
AS NEEDED
And the very last product in my skincare routine is one that I use as and when I need to. The Origins Super Spot Remover! I’ve been using this for years and find it’s the best product to use for drying up spots quickly and efficiently. It seems like quite an expensive product, coming in at £15.50 for 10ml, but you literally need to use the tiniest amount when you apply it, so it lasts for ages. I just dab a teeny tiny bit on any blemishes, and I feel them start to tingle straight away. Sometimes they disappear over night. Other times they take a couple of days. Either way, this stuff works like magic and works fast. I don’t think I’ll ever recommend another spot treatment as highly as this one. It’s amazing, and you can even wear it under makeup without it being noticeable!
And there you have it, my current skincare routine. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it, and that you’ve maybe found one or two new products to try out. I’ll be writing a post on my evening skincare routine soon as well, so make sure you look out for that!
