Decorating a home that you’ve just moved into, or simply sprucing up the rooms in the home you already live in is the best way to kick off a new month. Or, you know, spend a Saturday. You will always be amazed to see the difference that you can make simply by playing around with accessories in the home, and you can transform any room simply by buying in new accessories and changing the colour scheme with them. Accessories are life and if you are someone who loves to shop, then you’ll know what a trinket box can do and how they are all powerful when it comes to home décor.
The good news is that the right accessories don’t just make your home look good; they can really improve the comfort of the room you’ve decorated. The obvious reason to add accessories to your home is to make it look good. Luxury is something that everyone aspires to achieve when it comes to their home, and you get to really get your creative juices flowing when it’s your turn to get accessorizing your home. There are some absolutely essential things that you should be adding to your home to make it look perfect, and here they are:
Cosy Cushions
If it’s got a seat, it should be soft. Even dining chairs should have a cushion of some sort for support and comfort of the user. Not only should cushions be functional in supporting the lower spine, they should be beautiful! The right cushions of various sizes, materials and colours can be placed on sofas and chairs to really brighten up the room and make the seating areas comfortable. Go bold with colours to add a little warmth to the room while adding texture to the area you place them. Never underestimate the way a good, thick cushion can make your room transform.
Window Treatments
When you get dressed in the morning apply make-up, the eyes are a factor. Mascaras and eyeshadows get used in abundance, right? The windows are the eyes of each room and you should ensure that you add gorgeous ready made curtains | Montgomery alongside valance or other treatments. Tassels in bold colours, tie backs that are either solid or material are an essential and you can really brighten the whole room by the way you decorate your windows.
Lighting
It’s not just about the fixtures here; those will rarely change. But adding lampshades or changing them over to match the colour theme of the room is a must. There are so many different colours, styles and shapes out there that you are totally spoiled for choice. Modern in one room, vintage in another; the lighting world is wide open for you to choose from. Choose wisely though; a wrong colour or shape and the whole look could be ruined.
Mirrors
The Queen was right when she assumed the mirror she looked in was a magic one. Mirrors have this amazing ability to change the way a whole room looks, as they reflect light and make things look bigger and brighter without you even trying very hard! A well-placed mirror can change everything and if you place mirrors in the right areas of the room, they’ll bounce off of each other and create an illusion of more space than you have.
Nature
Bringing a little of the outdoors in is a very popular way to add colour and life to a room. Tall corner plants and ferns not only improve the quality of the air, they also add contrast to the lifelessness of the bookshelves and seating areas. You don’t have to just add plants, either, when you can add flowers in vases that can be dotted on windowsills and tables and just about every surface that you can think of.
Doors & Drawers
Cupboard doors, main doors and drawers all have one thing in common: handles. The simple change of the handles can make an entire room look completely different. You can change the shape, the colour of the metal and even the material to wood. Cleaning these adds a shine and a newness to them, brightening even the darkest of rooms.
Decorating should be exciting and fun, not boring, so work out your colour scheme as early as you can into the planning of your accessories. Your house is your castle and going beyond the interior décor to the accessories is a way you can ensure that your house stays as individual as possible.

I am always changing the accessories in our home to make things look different, I think I do it every season!
I love buying new accessories for my rooms. It’s amazing how a few new bits can totally change a room. We don’t have many mirrors in the house so that’s something to think about next time I’m house-shopping
