Butter London have been one of my favourite high end nail lacquer brands for a good few years now. So when I recently visited their website and found that they’d released a set of 4 x 6ml fashion sized lacquers featuring 3 of the shades from their fab new High Tea Collection and a shade exclusive to the set, I just knew I had to get it!
The set comes in a gorgeous little presentation box adorned with pictures of beautifully decorated teacups. I would most definitely guess that the inspiration for this came from the story of Alice in Wonderland. You can see all 4 shades of lacquer clearly through the front window of the box, and the shade names are labelled above each bottle so you can see exactly which is which without having to open it first. I think this is a really nice touch as I buy quite a lot of mini sets like this from different brands and I’ve never seen it done before.
Each bottle of Butter London nail lacquer is rectangular, which makes you think that the brush will be inside the lid, making it quite difficult to hold to paint the polish on, but in fact, once you pull off the outer lid, you will find a round one inside which unscrews with the brush attached. I find this really handy as Oscar likes to look through my makeup and nail polish stash and I don’t need to worry quite so much about him being able to get into these and pouring them out everywhere thanks to the double protection they have.
Butter London lacquers are well known to have ‘3 free’ formula’s, which means that they don’t contain any of the three big chemical nasties: Formaldehyde, Toluene or DBP. However, I noticed that the website no longer makes this claim, and that Camphor and Formaldehyde Resin have also been added to the list of ingredients that you won’t find in their lacquers. And if the brand are working on using less chemicals in their formula’s then that can only be a good thing.
This is an stunning deep berry shade that I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this year. Of all of the 4 polishes in the set, this one was the one that painted on the easiest, and seemed to dry the quickest. I usually only wear deeper shades like this throughout the winter months, but this one is just so beautiful that I’ve been wearing it a lot over the past few weeks. It’s fast becoming a firm favourite!
For me, this shade is as close to a perfect nude as I’m probably ever going to get. It looks gorgeous on, and I can totally see why this is the one they chose to name High Tea, it really does have a sort of milky cuppa look about it (if you know what I mean). I think I will get more wear out of this during the Autumn months, but will probably reach for it if I’m heading to any classy events, as it’s less noticeable than a lot of the other nail lacquers in my collection!
This laquer is an absolutely gorgeous melon/coral shade which I can see myself wearing all throughout the spring and into the summer. Of all the shades in this collection, this is without a doubt the one I’ve used the most so far. It’s a really vibrant shade that’s right up my street, and when I posted a picture of me wearing it on Instagram last week loads of you liked it and commented on how lovely the shade was.
This beautiful mint shade is exclusive to this particular set. I was definitely most excited about getting my hands on this one, but if I’m being honest I have to admit that it’s actually my least favourite of the 4. I found that it applied a lot gloopier than the other shades in the set, and I think that’s because it’s more of a pastel colour than any of the others. I have this happen with lighter nail shades pretty much all the time, no matter what brand I use. It’s still disappointing when it happens though.
All of the lacquers from the High Tea set have great colour payoff – I used just two coats of each to achieve full opaqueness, as shown above, and they all remained chip-free for at least 5 days! I think you could most definitely get away with just one coat of Ruby Murray though, as when I first painted it on, it looked fine.
Overall I think Butter London’s High Tea Nail Lacquer Collection is absolutely gorgeous, and a great way to try out some of their polishes without having to pay full price for a regular sized bottle. It would also make a great gift for a friend or loved one. It offers great value for money and as you can see from my pictures above, all 4 shades in the set are absolutely stunning. What more could you ask for?!
