Whether you are styling for yourself or someone else, the tips below will help you transform your bedroom into a gender-neutral space.
GO FOR A GENDER-NEUTRAL COLOUR PALETTE
Gender-neutral colours include black, white, grey, brown, green, yellow, and all shades of orange. If you opt for colours instead of bi-tones, pastel shades are gender-neutral and are an excellent choice for giving your bedroom a lift.
Starting with a white bed frame is an excellent place to start, or you could go for light grey. For gender-neutral spaces, avoid dark tones.
Our favourite way to make sure bedrooms have a balance of colours is the 60-30-10 rule, where 60% of your bedroom is a neutral colour like white, 30% is a secondary colour like light grey, and 10% is an accent colour like bright green.

IF IN DOUBT, GO ALL WHITE
When it comes to walls and bedding, the easiest way to make things gender-neutral is to go for an all-white space. All-white spaces are modern and crisp, and you can add warmth with chunky textures, knitted throws, and soft lighting.

GO FOR GOLD AND BRASSY TONES
Unlike chrome and silver, which portray a sense of femininity, gold and brass are both gender-neutral. Gold and brassy tones are perfect for mirror frames, light fittings, rugs, small ornaments, and other bedroom decors.

BALANCE STRAIGHT LINES AND CURVES
If you want to use straight lines and curves, remember that rounded shapes are feminine, while straight lines and square shapes are masculine.
Your bedroom should mix and match these features so that the eye is not drawn to any particular item. This way, it will create a sense of balance.
For example, your bed frame could be rounded and curved, and your bedside tables could be straight and angular. Or, you could have a straight and angled bed frame and a work of art above your bed in an oval or rounded frame.
IF IN DOUBT, GO FOR STRAIGHT LINES ONLY
While straight lines are masculine, you can balance them with feminine colours like pink, lilac, and desert sand. Opting for consecutive lines and banishing curves will help to give your bedroom structure and cohesion.

INTRODUCE GEOMOTARY IN INTERESTING WAYS
Masculine geometry and be found in straight lines and solid light, while feminine geometry can be found in circles and scattered light.
The key to ensuring that geometry stays gender-neutral is finding exciting ways to incorporate curves and angles.
An oversized geometric light shade will play with light in interesting ways, although a wiry frame might be a little too industrial for your tastes. A pendant light shade like the one pictured below is a softer option, giving your bedroom a gender-neutral lift.
MAKE A STATMENT WITH COLOURFUL WALL ART
When gender-neutral bedrooms have balanced colours and geometry, they sometimes suffer from a lack of personality.
Art, especially paintings and mixed media, offers an opportunity to showcase your personality and inject a pop of colour and intrigue into your bedroom. When placed above your bed, this will create a show stopping centrepiece.
