Have an afternoon free and nothing to do? Boredom gets to the best of us, especially on lazy weekends or rainy days when plans get cancelled. Here are four DIY projects that you can do in an afternoon to spice up your home or wardrobe.

DIY HERB GARDEN
Keeping fresh herbs on hand to use in cooking or for home remedies saves you a trip to the store when a recipe calls for one! Herb plants are usually inexpensive and don’t take up a lot of space. Creating a mini herb garden is super easy – all you need is a couple of Mason jars, a handful of marble-sized stones for each jar, some potting soil, and the plants!
Decorate the jars however you’d like before you begin. You could paint them, cover them in string, or keep them simple. Adding a label to the outside of each jar is also a good idea so that you don’t forget which herb is which.
Place the stones in the bottom of the jars about a third of the way up so that it allows the roots to breath. Then add potting soil and transfer the plants into the jar. Put the jars in a partly-sunny spot.
This mini herb garden will add some colour to a windowsill and bring you great health benefits from each one! Common herbs include mint, basil, cilantro, parsley, rosemary and so much more.

DIY PAINTED PANTS POCKETS
Are you bored of wearing the same pair of jeans? Painting your jeans pockets adds a pop of colour to your outfit and spark so many compliments. You will need an old pair of jeans, tape, the paint colours you wish to apply, and paint brushes.
Start out by outlining your back jeans pockets with masking tape or painters’ tape. Make sure that it tightly follows the pocket line. Then, add a base colour to each pocket such as white or black so that the jean fabric doesn’t show through.
Once the base is dry, paint whatever design your heart desires! You could do stripes, polka dots, an abstract design, or even words. Once you do one pair, you’ll want to do all of yours! DIY SHELF & DRAWER LINING
Looking into a black hole of a drawer when trying to find a pair of socks or kitchen utensil doesn’t help you to find what you’re looking for. You can solve this problem with a quick DIY by lining your drawer or shelf bottoms. You can either use fabric or paint.
To use fabric, getting to know which adhesive works best is important. Simply placing fabric in the bottom of a drawer will just allow it to slide around every time you open it. Use an epoxy glue for best results. This will make the fabric stay in place and it sticks to just about any surface: wood, metal, plastic, etc. Make sure the fabric is cut perfectly for each drawer or shelf, then apply the epoxy, and place the fabric accordingly.
If you plan on painting the bottom of the drawers or shelves, it is best to do one coat of a base colour first and then create your design on top of that layer.
This quick DIY ensures a bright bottom that makes all the difference in your kitchen pantry or bedroom drawers.

DIY FABRIC-WRAPPED STORAGE BIN
Storage bins are great for keeping just about everything, but nice bins can sometimes run expensive. You can create your own with a simple cardboard box with an open top, some fabric and glue!
Make sure you get a fabric that isn’t see-through because if you are using a box that has lettering on it, you will be able to see it. Putting a neutral fabric on the inside of the box and a patterned one on the outside keeps the inside looking more organised.
Measure and cut the fabric in a cross shape that will fit the bottom and all four sides for the outside. Make sure that all the sides are slightly longer than the box itself so that you can fold it around the edges. Glue around the edges and add the fabric to the box. Then, cut a similar shape for the inside of the box with the neutral fabric. Tuck the edges of the fabric that exceeds the top of the box back in on itself to create a smooth edge and glue.
Most of these DIY crafts can be made with common household objects and are easy to assemble. Keep them in mind the next time you have a few hours to spare and want to add some new elements to your home or closet.
