The kitchen is the heart of the home for many people around the world, and we tend to spend a lot of time in them cooking, socialising, and if your kitchen allows then eating in them as well. So it’s only fair to say that we should look after our kitchens and ensure that they work well for us. As our families grow so do our requirements from our kitchens, it’s good to know that a kitchen can be upgraded to match the requirements and ensure that everybody gets the best from the space. When it comes to spending time in the kitchen of course having it exactly how you like, and ensuring that it is comfortable as well as functional is essential. So as well as giving Granite Transformations a call here are some of the ways in which your kitchen can grow with your family, and upgrade along the way.

STORAGE
The number one thing that many people complain about when it comes to kitchens is storage. And if you are struggling for space, because your kitchen just isn’t big enough then being clever with storage is essential. Making sure that you are taking advantage of every nook and cranny in your kitchen, taking advantage of the many hugs systems that you can now purchase, and of course, ensuring that the cupboard space you do have is organised effectively, are always in which you can make the best use of your storage areas. Whether your kitchen was perfect when you moved in, or you have had to build and replace things along the way, there are very many options available to you to ensure you have a comfortable amount of storage. If your kitchen is entirely too small, then becoming a bit more frugal, making sure that you are Organised, and also that you only buy what you need means that your storage solutions aren’t going to be so much of a problem. There are people who choose to go back to the old-fashioned pantry or “store” route and this can also be very effective.
TECHNOLOGY
Modern technology is a wonderful thing we will all agree, but it moves so fast that by the time you are finished installing your kitchen the latest devices will have been released. But whilst you are trying to keep up with the latest technology it’s important that you use it to your advantage. The space that you have can fit many different appliances and kitchen technology that you may never have thought of. from equipment that can time what you were doing, to soup making blenders that will blend and cook soup to perfection with very little interaction, right down to LED lights that only turn on when you walk past them, there are so many options and choosing the right one should be fun. It’s incredible the number of tools now that you can buy for your kitchen that will not only reduce the amount of time you spend in the kitchen but also save you money too. This can also help your children become enthused about cooking, and may even help keep them safe in the kitchen through temperature control appliances and safety features that have been thought of. You can even log into your refrigerator from anywhere and see if there are items in there that you need. Not only does this save you money and unnecessarily buying things you don’t need, but save your time as well. Safety features I’ll become much more prevalent in homes now, and you can also find smart homes connected to Google via mobile devices as well, and all of these technologies are designed to help us with our day-to-day lives.
COMFORT
Of course, comfort is essential when you are spending time in your home, no matter where you are you really need to consider how comfortable you feel in your environment. Ultimately it’s all about providing yourself and your family with the creature comforts that you enjoy, this means different things to different people, but at the end of the day if a picnic bench in your kitchen helps your family spend time together relaxing, and you all enjoy your surroundings then you are onto a winner. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, although it can be, of course, it just has to suit you and your family. Making sure that you can tidy everything away, that you can comfortably sit and relax, and you can cook without too many obstacles in your way, is something that we would all aim to achieve. There is nothing stopping you putting a small armchair in the corner of the kitchen to relaxing whilst you’re waiting for things to cook, the more time we spend in the kitchen feeling comfortable and better the results.
DECOR
The decor of your kitchen is a personal opinion, it is something that everybody likes to think about for themselves. You can, of course, draw inspiration from places such as Pinterest and hold magazines, and even visiting your friends to see what they have in their kitchens can be helpful too. But ultimately if you like the colour green and you want to paint your walls in your kitchen green then go for it, even if the teenagers may complain a little, it doesn’t matter too much to anybody else, so this is something that you should really get right for yourself. There are even Facebook group is dedicated to Diy and decorating your homes as well now, that is filled with people who are trying things out and enjoying the process, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to do the same as well. At the end of the day were the ones that have to live with our decisions, and there is nothing stopping you creating something different with your kitchen decor. In fact, it should be encouraged as unique ideas can only be a positive thing. It is after all 2020 and so we have the opportunity to test new things and have fun.
FUNCTIONALITY
Having a kitchen that works for you is something that we will require when we have a busy life and family to take care of. And even though we may have the technology and the appliances in place, if you are going to have an issue with the workflow of your kitchen, then it isn’t a functional kitchen at all. Wasting time looking for things, or not being able to move around effectively is potentially going to cause you to waste time. And not many of us have a lot of time to spare when we work hard. Having the correct tools to hand such as saucepans and a knife block that will ultimately speed up the cooking process, is something that we should all consider carefully when re-designing, or upgrading our kitchen. Having a Recycling station set up can improve your waste situation drastically. Creating a laundry section is also going to help the functionality of your kitchen, and even choosing inserts that organise your cupboards, and cleaning products is something that will help your kitchen feel much more effective. Not only that but knowing exactly what your kitchen needs to do to be perfect for you, and work for you, is the main criteria. So when you’re thinking of upgrading it’s always a good idea to write down the things that are essential to you.
EXTENSION
Sometimes the only answer to your space problems is to build an extension on your kitchen. These extensions can create a wonderful light and airy spaces within your home, that many people choose to turn into a relaxing area. But sometimes the space is necessary since your kitchen just isn’t big enough for your growing family. This is something that you really want to get right, and making sure that you do your research on builders before hiring anybody, and getting recommendations from friends, will eventually help you get the right help and workmen for the job. Just prepare for the dust and noise of a new extension being built. And of course consider planning and your neighbours in advance, since it’s no fun having to discuss your plans once they have started to come into fruition. These extensions are no longer boring brickwork and simple window designs, you really can choose anything that works for you, and even some special design work might improve your overall outcome.
The family meals that you cook in your kitchen over the years, only get bigger with time, so treating yourself to a larger event as an upgrade, or improve in the space that you will all sit and enjoy together, is no waste of time. It can provide valuable building work, that is a great investment both in your time and finances. So take this opportunity to spend time in your kitchen, providing amazing food and laughter as well. Kitchens are for making memories, and your children will remember baking cookies, and waiting for their family meal.
