East London is a great place to add to your travel itinerary, especially if you are planning a trip to London on your own. Looking for some tips and tricks to get you set out on the right foot?
This article lists must-see attractions, tasty food options, and more to help any traveller fall in love with the east side of London.
Street Art
If you love art and exhibitions, the streets of East London will warm your heart, especially if you’re a fan of all things funky. As a plus, you don’t have to queue or book tickets to get into a museum or an art gallery to check out these free-to-observe murals.

To a leisurely stroll to soak it all in and, if you’re really interested, why not look at booking a street art tour so that you can get a bit of background on these famous works of art and the people behind them.
Options for Eating Out
East London is filled with tasty bites, from hip cafes to street food trucks. And, fortunately for visitors of London, it’s a melting pot of cultures from all over the world, meaning you’ll be able to find everything from curry to fish and chips.

For solo travellers especially, street food is an ace option because it’s incredibly inexpensive. You could easily fill your stomach with a fiver. Talk about a bargain.
Visit the Park
London Fields is sprawling (and famous) park in East London’s Hackney that’s perfect for picnics, restaurants, bars, and even a Lido – all perfect for long, lazy summer days. While the park used to be a grazing area for animals on their way to the market way back when, it’s now a hub for Londoners and travellers of all ages, making it a perfect place to meet new people while you’re exploring on your own.
Enjoy Traditional Food
East London is home to some of the most well-known traditional British dishes – including fish and chips and pie and mash. You’ll find a restaurant on every corner serving these hearty dished and, if you prefer something a bit classier, you can head to one of the many 5 star boutique hotels in London for slightly more refined versions of the dishes listed above.

If you’d rather rough it, we recommend one of the most popular (and oldest!) restaurants, F. Cooke, which is situated along Broadway Street.
Check Out Broadway Market
Speaking of Broadway Street, Broadway Market is the place to go on Saturdays in East London. For solo travellers, this is a wonderful place to spend a leisurely afternoon poking around vintage shops, sipping on a coffee, and sampling the foods. There are also plenty of stores lining either side of the market, from bookstores to flower shops.
Don’t Stay In the Hotel Room on Sunday
While we wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to lounge in your suite at The Piccadilly London West End or another local hotel, if you did fancy exploring, Sunday is a great day for markets. In particular, this is the day to head down Brick Lane. If you haven’t heard of it, do some research – a trip to London isn’t complete without this experience.
Shop Some More
We don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but if nothing else, East London is famous for its shopping. You can find everything from antiques and vintage clothes to souvenirs and high-end totes. For the most diverse shopping experience, we recommend the shops found along Shoreditch High Street in Old Spitalfields Market.
