Every week I get 2 or 3 e-mails from readers asking if I have any tips I can share on getting more page views on their blogs. Now, I don’t claim to be an expert in this field as I don’t know how well my stats compare against other bloggers, but a couple of years ago I started trying to increase my own monthly page views, and I found that there were 5 key things that seemed to work best for me and helped triple my page views.
Today I’m going to re-share my post from March 8th 2013 when I talked about those 5 things in depth so you too can see how well they work on your own blogs. And if you decide to give them a try then please make sure you let me know how well they worked for you. I love getting feedback from you guys. Ok then, let’s go …
1. Write more ‘pinnable’ posts
I don’t know about you guys, but I currently get a lot of page views from Pinterest. In fact, on average, around 65% of my views come are coming from there. After that it’s Google, Facebook and Twitter. Now, the last three definitely vary in order from month to month, but Pinterest pretty much always stays at the top. Why? Well I firmly believe it’s because I’ve been trying to make a point of including at least one ‘pinnable’ image in every blog post I write and at least 2-3 ‘pinnable’ posts per week.
Of course, every bloggers definition of ‘pinnable’ is different, but to me a pinnable image is one which looks really pretty so people want to click through to your post to see more, and a pinnable post is one which is helpful to the reader in one way or another. So it could be a DIY post, a recipe or a tutorial like this one. Once I have written up this post I will ‘pin’ the image I created on PicMonkey (above) and when people see that I am sharing ways to increase your page views they’ll just have to click on it, won’t they?*
2. Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Blogging and Twitter go hand in hand – so make sure you’re using it to your full advantage! I like to use Buffer to schedule my tweets so I don’t have to keep logging on to the internet during the day just to do this! A good rule of thumb is to tweet the link to each new post at least 3 times a day. I usually do one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. When I publish my post I tweet the link straight away and then I open up Buffer and schedule it twice more for that day and then once a day for the rest of the week.
You needn’t worry about people getting sick of seeing the same link being tweeted either because Twitter is so fast paced that things get buried in an instant. I usually dig out an old post from the archives and schedule that in for around 9pm as well as there will always be someone who hasn’t seen it before and will want to have a read! I also find that adding an image and a couple of relevant hashtags to each tweet increases the amount of clicks each link gets.
3. Share posts by other bloggers in your niche
Those of you who know me well will know that I like to share the love and post any links to fab posts I find written by other bloggers to my Facebook page and Twitter Feed on a daily basis. I tend to share 2-3 posts each day and these will usually be from bloggers who have a similar niche to me as I know they’re more likely to be of interest to my followers. And I only share posts that I genuinely enjoy – I wouldn’t post just any old thing!
4. Connect with other bloggers
I love chatting to other bloggers and find myself joining in with many a Twitter Chat or Facebook Party. I am part of lots of different blogging groups on Facebook that allow me to post my link(s) to their page for others to see, which gives my blog a lot of extra exposure. Some of my favourite groups are UK Bloggers, Bloggers Unite, Mummy, Beauty & Lifestyle Bloggers and The Bloggers Comment Exchange. These groups are chock-a-block with like-minded people and I love being a part of their communities.
I also visit a lot of great blogs on a daily basis and always try to leave a comment or two on their posts. And I always, always reply to any comments that are left on my own blog, along with visiting any links that are left too. This may take me a few days if I’ve had a lot of comments or am snowed under with work, but I always make sure I interact with my readers. It’s really important to me.
5. And finally, join in with linkups and/or comment exchanges
Linkups and comment exchanges are my new favourite things. I don’t know why but I used to think they were pointless, but now I think they’re amazing and so much fun. They are awesome ways to find new blogs to read as well as getting that extra exposure I talked about earlier.
There are lots of different linky parties out there, such as themed ones, ones which allow you to link up your best post of the week and even ones where you can just link your social networks rather than your blog posts! I usually try to join in with a couple of linkups or comment exchanges per day, and once I started doing this I found that I was getting views from all sorts of different places. It gave me such a buzz!
By doing these 5 things every day (or most days in my case as I can be quite forgetful at times) I have found that my page views have tripled over the past 3 months. How fab is that?!
If so I would love to hear from you!

Great post, when you mention pinterest, what do you write in the comment/title section of the pin please? Any advice on this? x
Thanks Chloe 🙂 When I pin an image to Pinterest I write as much as I can about each post in the description box and then use relevant hashtags at the end. For this one I chose things such as #bloggers #blogginghelp #bloggingtips etc. Hope that helps X

I really need to do more on Pinterest. I don’t tweet my links as much as I should do either.

Fab tips. I couldn’t agree more about Twitter, it is a blogger’s paradise when used correctly. I use Tweetdeck for scheduling, which I hate doing but its a necessary evil lol. I think Pinterest is seriously under rated as a blogging tool.

These are fab tips and so true. I am slowly improving my pinning skills but it is a work in progress. I love Twitter but my scheduling and tweeting has cut down due to being too unwell but I’m simply doing what I can and hope to get more views.

Great tips Louise! Commenting on other blogs is something that I struggled with until I found the Facebook groups and now I’m really enjoying it. Consistency seems to be pretty important too 🙂

Love posts like these that show you how people manage to keep their blog so engaging! I don’t think people realise how much work goes into a running a blog. I’ve never used Buffer before for tweets, I’m gonna check them out 🙂
Pinterest is an invaluable form of social media for blog hits, I get so many through it x

Great post. You’re so right as well; Pinterest is a great source of traffic and I really need to put more effort in to it. I think Stumbleupon is another great source of relevant traffic.

Thanks for this post, it’s so helpful! I really don’t like using pinterest, I have no idea why but I just don’t like the interface – I’m currently trying my hardest to use it though. I also need to use Buffer more – I work as a VA so I use it all the time for clients, but I don’t use it for myself!
Thank you so much. These tips were actually helpful unlike a lot of other tips put there.
Loved this post and will hopefully put these tips into practice!! Also I never considered using Pinterest as a platform for my blog but it’s the place I’ve come to for help with it, haha.
