My Travel Bucket List 2019

If there’s one thing I could most definitely do with right now, it’s a holiday! Between having gastroenteritis, Oscar not wanting to go to sleep again at night, work becoming a little stressful, getting behind with the housework, and basically just seeing everyone else’s wonderful holiday snaps popping up on my Facebook feed, I’ve had more than enough. And have been doing some serious fantasising about taking some time out for a little R&R.

We still have to wait another couple of months before our annual family holiday to Great Yarmouth begins. So I’ve been filling in the little bit of spare time I’ve had looking up some of the cities that are on my current travel bucket list and wishing more than anything that I could find a last minute city break that didn’t clash with any of our other plans so I could book a nice little break! And, for today’s post, I thought I’d share the top 5 destinations I’d love to visit with you guys here on my blog. I hope you enjoy having a read as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

05. MILAN | ITALY

The first city on my travel bucket list is Milan. And this is somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit ever since I was a little girl. I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion and would love to visit the city during Milan fashion week, but it has so much other stuff to offer too. I’d love to go see an opera at the Teatro alla Scala, do a spot of high-end shopping at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II, visit the QC Termemilano Spa, which can be found in an old tram depot, and also have a wander around the Duomo di Milani Cathedral. I’m pretty sure I’d be in my element here as I love visiting cities that have a lot of history behind them. 

04. ATHENS | GREECE

Another city that seems to have been on my travel bucket list for forever is Athens in Greece. When I was younger I was really into Greek Mythology and would spend hours reading up on it at the library. It goes without saying that I’d love to visit The Temple of Poseidon, who was the God of the sea. The marble temple stands 60 metres above sea level on Cape Sounio and was first built by ancient Athenians to honour Poseidon and guide sailors safely home. All that remains now, though, is a series of towering columns which I imagine look incredible against glorious Greek sunsets. I’d also love to go to one of the amazing outdoor film venues in Athens to watch an old Greek classic on the big screen. I think it would make me feel like one of the locals rather than a tourist. And that’s always a nice feeling when you’re on a city break.

03. KOTOR | MONTENEGRO

My mum and dad recently went on an Eastern Mediterranean Cruise, and one of the places they raved about when they came home was Kotor in Montenegro. It wasn’t really a place I’d heard about until they brought it up, but it’s basically a gorgeous Medieval walled city with World Heritage status, scenery to die for, and a seriously spectacular natural harbour. I loved looking at their holiday photos of Kotor, and when my dad said he’d like to go back and explore more of Montenegro I knew it must be somewhere truly special. After all, he doesn’t usually talk very highly of the places they’ve visited on their cruises! 

02. PARIS | FRANCE

When I was about 12 I went on a school trip to France, and one of the places we were supposed to visit was Paris. However, there was work being done on the Eiffel Tower at the time, and it was closed to visitors, so the teachers decided to take us to Boulogne instead. I was absolutely gutted as the only reason I went on the trip was to visit the French capital. And, needless to say, I didn’t enjoy the trip at all. One day I would love to go back to France and finally see the sights and sounds of Paris. I’d love to visit the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, The Eiffel Tower, and, of course, Disneyland Paris for the little ones. I think they’d love it!

01. NEW YORK CITY | USA

And the city I’d love to visit the most would just have to be New York City in the good old USA. Ever since I read The Babysitters Club books as a kid, I’ve wanted to go for a visit. One of the main characters, Stacey McGill, was originally from New York, and the way Ann M. Martin, the author, made the city sound was just fantastic. I don’t think it’s the sort of place where you would ever get bored, as it has so much to offer. If I’m ever lucky enough to visit NYC some of the things I’d love to do include having a picnic in Central Park, visiting the Rockerfella Centre, taking an amazing Gossip Girl Tour, and, of course, I’d just have to see a show on Broadway!
