01. LAYOUT
If there’s one thing I can’t stress enough, it’s to avoid making any unnecessary changes to the existing layout of your bathroom. After all, the fewer alterations you make, the lower your plumbing costs will be. If you do need to move some of the key elements around, then at least keep the toilet close enough to connect to the existing soil pipe. And once the design has been finalised – do not change it! Just make sure you show it to the electrician, tiler and any other related traders before signing it off to make sure they can’t see any issues that will interfere with their part of the project later on.
02. BATHROOM FURNITURE
To be sure things such as your hot and cold pipes and waste disposal etc. are in the correct positions, you’ll need to choose all your sanitary ware before tiling or plastering. Make sure you’ve picked out everything from your bath, sink, toilet and shower units to your taps and bathroom furniture before the first-fix stage, as leaving big decisions until the sales are on can lead to expensive alterations further down the line! 03. WATERPROOFING
Tile backer boards can be used to line bathroom walls and shower enclosures. They are 100% waterproof when taped and jointed, and they act as insulation too! Using these boards will drastically reduce the risk of leaks, which can be incredibly damaging and costly to repair, so they’re most definitely worth considering. When I finally get around to renovating my own bathroom, I’m also going to be installing shower boards (just like these bathroom wall panels) instead of having tiles as they don’t need to be scrubbed half as much as tiles do. And, let’s face it, life is way too short to be scrubbing between tiles!
04. VENTILATION
Many cases of damp are caused by condensation, and as bathrooms are damp and steamy by nature you should really be looking at installing an adequate ventilation system – such as an extractor fan – to keep moisture to an absolute minimum. If your bathroom has wooden windows, I highly recommend investing in a window vac that can suck up condensation. It would prove invaluable for quickly getting rid of any excess water that may otherwise rot the frames.
05. STORAGE
There’s nothing worse than a load of old clutter to ruin the aesthetic of a newly renovated bathroom. So don’t forget to include lots of storage! You can use storage furniture and baskets to keep everything out of sight – except for all your posh toiletries of course! Including fitted furniture in your new bathroom will give it a lovely co-ordinated finish, but it needs to be planned in from the start. And freestanding and modular furniture offers more flexibility and can be added after everything else is in place. Modular furniture can also be wall-mounted, making effective use of space in clutter-prone areas of the bathroom.
06. LIGHTING
When choosing the lighting for your new bathroom, I think it’s important to not go overboard! I’d suggest opting for pendant lighting, as a single central fitting will prove much cheaper than individual downlights or wall lights. Then, you could add a couple of big mirrors to make the room look and feel lighter and airier. If you’re still not convinced, how about considering multi-bulb fittings that only require a single power cable? When the lights have been chosen, it is best to have a licensed electrician install them for you, as is similar to any electrical repair in Utah, this will ensure all work is safely carried out and completed to the required standards.
07. MATERIALS
And, finally, when renovating your bathroom, it’s important to always choose materials that can withstand the conditions of a bathroom. From easy panels – bathroom wall panels and appropriate flooring to waterproof paints and sealed wall tiles, there are loads of awesome products designed to resist high volumes of water.

Renovatinga bathroom can be so hectic but you’ve listed stuff to do so well. A good layout is very important because it will also determine how you deal with storage in the bathrooms.
I must admit that I have never renovated a bathroom before, but I feel if I were put to the task, I have some great tips right here from this post 🙂

I renovated my bathroom a few years ago and I remember what a nightmare that was because of the workers who did it. The walls are still not straight to the day! However, I am very happy with the tile colors and the furniture I’ve chosen, I have a very modern bathroom that I really love.
I can tell from my experience when my parents wanted to renovate the bathroom, it took a hell lot of time but the result was pretty much satisfactory. Everything turned out almost great with showers and extra sink. We have sleek modern bathroom now.
I still have the bathroom I want all in my head and now that we are almost buying a house, I am on the look out for my dream bathroom and these tips are perfect just in case we decide to renovate.
It is always good to make sure the hot and cold are in the right positions. When we remodeled our bathroom, the plumber did not check that the builders had the backward. Thankfully the faucet we bought made it easy for him to correct it.
