Fake it ‘til you make it – how to hide your tiredness by looking and feeling good

It might be the time of year, the time of the month, you might have unrelenting deadlines, relentless social expectations, children pushing you to the brink of exhaustion, or you might have had too many late nights at the pub. Regardless of why you feel so tired, we all need ways to hide the fact. But it’s not easy to act bright eyed and bushy tailed if you feel as if you haven’t slept in weeks. 

You can try a new mattress, designer eye creams, or listening to some soothing music before you go to bed, but here you’ll find some helpful tips about how you can look a little less tired in the meantime.

Take a hot – and cold – shower 

When you roll out of bed, the first thing you might think of is to stand under a boiling hot shower for thirty minutes and somehow convince yourself to leave it. But did you know if you really want to wake yourself up and get the blood pumping, then alternating the temperature will certainly work. The sudden temperature change will really rev your skin colour and circulation into gear, try it!

Focus on your smile 

If your face is pale, ashen and puffy then don’t panic, the trick is to accentuate the areas that aren’t. Liven up your look with a quick swipe of bright, baby pink lipstick. Pink will warm up the tones of your face and make your teeth look whiter too!

A treat for the eyes 

Before you pile on the foundation and concealer, try giving your eyes a boost of caffeine first. Either place some cooled tea bags on your eyes or soak some cotton pads in espresso for ten minutes if you’re more of a coffee lover. The caffeine will work to reduce the redness and puffiness of the area, making your eyes look fresh and bright.

Wear a ponytail 

Pulling your hair into a high pony tail is like giving your face a little lift. Perfect if your face is drooping from all the lack of sleep. You’ll probably get lots of compliments about how it suits you too! Great distraction.

Get moving 

It might be the exact opposite of what you want to do right now, but if you’re heading to work and you’re looking pretty exhausted, try parking the car a little further away from the office than normal and briskly walk into work. Getting your blood pumping will flush your skin and give you a gorgeous glow. No one will know your counting down until bedtime!

Keep hydrated 

Drinking a glass of water before you go to bed and when you wake up will help keep your skin hydrated and looking fresh and dewy the next day.

Use a tinted moisturiser 

Having a sun kissed look will certainly fool anyone who thinks they saw you in the pub late last night. A little illumination of the skin will work wonders no matter what your skin type might be.Fake it ‘til you make it – how to hide your tiredness by looking and feeling good

    I have heard that taking a cold shower is very good for you. I prefer a warm one myself though lol x

    Great tips on how to hide tiredness and with a busy social schedule (mainly the kids’ Christmas events and parties!) plus preparing for Christmas amongst normal daily life is taking its toll on me. Never heard of using soaked cotton pads in coffee before on the eyes, will have to give it a go to help my puffy eyes.

    Im always so tired when the nights get dark early! A cold shower always peps me up though!

    Being hydrated and exercising is something my mummy needs to do more. Eyecream at night might help her, plus highlighter in the days!

    I find a tinted moisturiser is a must for me when I’m looking a little tired – it does wonders for covering the dark circles! x

    I didn’t know the ponytail trick! How brilliant. I tend to drink lots of water and eyeliner is a lifesaver as my eyes usually give away how tired I am.

    I love this! Definitely tips I need right now! I do tend to have a blast of freezing cold at the end of every shower, but that’s as much as I can deal with! Haha
