A couple of months ago I asked you guys on Facebook if you could recommend a good contour palette to me. And literally hundreds of you messaged me to say you loved the Barry M ones. So, a couple of weeks later I headed on down to my nearest Superdrug store to see what they had to offer. And one particular palette stood out to me pretty much straight away – their Feeling Cheeky Sculpting Palette!
I think me being drawn to this particular palette was mostly thanks to its super pretty packaging. But I also noticed that it came with a little ‘how-to’ guide, which is always useful to have when you’re trying out new products. Anyway, I posted a picture of the product on Instagram earlier this week and a lot of you seemed interested in finding out more about it. So today I thought I’d do a little bit of a review for you. I hope you enjoy having a read.
As I mentioned before, the Barry M Feeling Cheeky Sculpting Palette is ridiculously pretty. And instead of the product being housed in the usual cardboard packaging, this particular one comes inside a nifty little tin, which is perfect for carrying around inside your handbag. The outside of the tin is predominately black. But the lid is really fun and funky, featuring a white background covered in little black dots, and then larger coloured circles sort of ‘splattered’ all around it.
The tin then opens up to reveal 3 different coloured powders and a little mirror. There’s a dark powder to contour, a light powder to brighten, and an illuminating powder to highlight. And at first glance, all 3 shades looked like they would compliment my pale skin tone perfectly. I couldn’t wait to get the palette home so I could give it a try!
The first thing I noticed about the powders in the Feeling Cheeky Sculpting Palette was just how soft they were compared to similar drugstore products. I think this really helps when you’re blending them out as it makes it so much quicker and easier. I had spotted that the blurb on the bottom of the tin said they were easy to blend, but I have to be honest and say I didn’t expect them to be anywhere near as good as they actually are.
Once blended, the powders give my skin a lovely, subtle glow that I haven’t been able to achieve through makeup before. And I’ve noticed that they stay put for most of the day as well. I generally only have to top them up if I’m going straight from a day event to an evening one. The rest of the time I can just make it last. How good is that?!
As you can see from the image above, the three shades are really easy to tell apart. The darker shade on the left is the contour shade. And the how-to guide that came with the product explains that you apply this shade diagonally under the cheekbone down to the corners of your mouth, blending any visible lines.
The yellowish shade in the middle is the brightening powder, and this is the one that you apply under the eyes and to the high points of your cheekbones, blending up towards your hairline. I really love using this particular powder as it helps me look more awake and covers any dull looking skin.
And the slightly shimmery shade on the right is the highlighter. Barry M recommend you lightly press this on the cheekbones, brow bones and cupids bow for a glowy finish. You don’t need to worry about this shade leaving you looking like a glitterball either as it’s shimmery, but it’s not overly shimmery. It gives a natural-looking glow.
I’ve swatched each of the powders above so you can get an idea of what they look like on the skin. From left to right we have the highlighting shade, the brightening powder, and the contour colour. I had to apply a lot of the highlighter for it to show up well on camera as the shimmer is very subtle. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s a beautiful shade though. And all three powders have a good amount of pigmentation.
One thing I’ve noticed about these powders is that they’re exceptionally good quality. They blend like a dream and just feel a lot more premium than they actually are. I think that’s really good for a drugstore brand. It’s actually made me want to try more products from the Barry M range. So if you have any recommendations then be sure to let me know.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the Barry M Feeling Cheeky Sculpting Palette. It’s easy to use, the powders are super blendable, and I think the colours are just perfect for those of us with paler skin tones. I also feel like I would have assumed this was a high-end product if I hadn’t bought it myself and seen what brand it was. The quality is that good!
I should also mention that the palette comes in at just £6.49, which has got to be a bargain. And there is 3.2g of powder in each section. I’ll most definitely be repurchasing it when the powders start to run out. Well done Barry M on creating such a wonderful product. I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know!
