Getting More Use Out Of Your Attic

When it comes to living inside a house, there’s a lot of space that can go a-wasting. But it shouldn’t! We’ve looked at how easy it is to get the coziest bedroom ever, let’s apply the same principle to the rest of the house! Let’s stay on the top floor for the time being, and focus on the little thought of area known as the attic. Here’s some tips on how you can get some more use out of it!

Clear Out the Junk

Your attic is going to be the most likely place you store everything you don’t need, and where you keep all of your momentos from times gone by. However, not everything needs to be kept! If you don’t get any kind of use out of some of the objects up there anymore, it’s time to clear them out.

Either you can take them to be donated, sell them off if they’re in good enough condition, or simply throw them away. The latter option is always the easiest, and if you just can’t stand the condition your attic is in anymore, it’s the best one to sate your frustration. But if you’re too attached to what you have stored away, it’s time to make some compromises; or simply get someone else to do it for you!

Make it Livable

Now that you’ve cleaned out some space in your attic, it’s time to turn it into the nicest room in the house. The place you can retreat to when you need some time alone, to relax or to work, or to soak up the sun that comes in from the skylight you had installed years ago but never used.

You might need to undergo a attic conversion, but sometimes we don’t have the time or money for that. So instead, make do with some cheaper additions. There’s a good chance you’ve got exposed wires; you can install an easy access panel to make this a safer room for everyone, whilst still being able to access any building services stored up there when you need to. Thankfully, Access Panels Next Day Delivery exists out there, and you can soon have your lofty aspirations well underway!

Keeping it Tidy

Now that you’ve got your new room, and it’s just starting to look cozy, make sure it stays that way! You still need to use this extra space for the excess storage you can’t keep in your bedroom, and that means you’re going to need some shelves.

Buy some easy assemble ones and place them against the back wall. Line up all your possessions on those, to keep them organized and out of the way. It also means the storage doesn’t detract from the rest of the room.Getting More Use Out Of Your AtticSometimes it just takes a bit of elbow grease to find an easy solution for your home decor dreams. Hopefully you can implement some more space in your house with these tips, as well as holding onto the objects you love the most.

I love these ideas. I wish we had an attic, but we do not. It would be nice though! We don’t even have a basement.

I’ve always wanted to live in a house with an attic. I never have though. I would definitely want to turn it into an extra bedroom.

These are some awesome sounding ideas, I have to admit we have an unused loft. I did talk about flooring it somewhat at the very least just to make more storage.

These are all amazing ideas! I live in a flat in London so no attic. But my parents live in a big house in the country side and are thinking about making the attic a dormitory for when my siblings and i have kids!

My parents did this with our spare room above the garage where we lived when I was a teenager. It was an awesome hangout room!

If that’s how you have actually turned around your attic, I think you really are a witch! That’s some magic, right there. It looks like such a classy and cozy place! 🙂

I would love to have a bedroom in an attic. We live in an apartment so no chance yet, maybe in 5 or 10 years we will be able to buy a house. I think it’s really cozy and romantic to sleep in an attic.

I love seeing DIY and room makeovers! The before and afters shown are amazing! It’s too bad I don’t have a load bearing attic; the extra space would be wonderful.
