It’s that time of year again. The time that all the beauty advent calendars start hitting the shelves, and we hope and pray that our favourites haven’t gone and sold out before payday! I can’t tell you how many times that’s happened to me in the past – it’s just horrible.
Today I thought I’d talk about my top 10 beauty advent calendars for 2017, and if you make it to the end then there’s also a little giveaway you can enter to try and win your favourite from the list as well. So, are you sitting comfortably? Then let the countdown begin …
It’s a well-known fact that I’m a big fan of The Body Shop, so when I came across their Ultimate Advent Calendar I just knew I had to include it in my post. I’ve put it at position 10, as it obviously only includes products from the one brand, but just look at how pretty it is!
This particular advent calendar has 25 doors to open, so you get a special treat on Christmas Day as well as on all the days leading up to it, and it contains a really great selection of Body Shop products, such as their gorgeous British Rose Shower Gel, a Drops of Youth Youth Concentrate, a Lip & Cheek Stain in Vineyard Peach, and some Almond Milk & Honey Body Butter.
The sizes of the products inside the calendar are really generous, and I like how each product comes inside a little box, rather than you having to tear it out. There are a couple of odd filler products inside here as well, which is another reason it only made it to the number 10 spot, but overall it’s absolutely beautiful, and as the total value of the products inside is worth £214, I think the £99 price tag shows great value for money. I love it!
Next up we have an old favourite of mine: Ciate’s Mini Mani Month! Ciate was one of the first brands (if not the first) to ever start making beauty advent calendars, and they still deliver year upon year. This year I am loving the selection of shades they’ve included in their calendar. I would wear every single one of them.
The doors on this particular calendar go up to Christmas Eve, which is traditional, and as with previous years, you get a mini paint pot, topper, treatment, or accessory each day, plus a full-size paint pot on the 24th. I love the design of this year’s calendar too – it’s a cream box adorned with silver stars and the cutest pinky coloured images. Each treat comes in a little box as well, so you don’t have to tear into the calendar itself.
Ciate’s Mini Mani Month is one of the most affordable beauty advent calendars on the market, coming in at just £50, and I think it’s perfect for beauty fans, nail polish addicts, and teenagers who are fed up with regular chocolate advent calendars! I highly recommend it.
When I first heard that one of my favourite places to shop online, ASOS, was releasing an advent calendar this year, I got very excited. And when I finally found out what was inside, I most certainly wasn’t disappointed! The calendar features a wide range of beauty brands that they stock on their website, and there’s a really good mix of skincare, makeup, and hair care products behind each window.
The calendar itself is absolutely beautiful, and it opens like a book to reveal 25 windows. I personally think they should have stuck at 24 though, as one of the doors has a 25% ASOS discount code inside, and you can usually find these with a quick google anyway. But the rest of the treats are fab, with goodies from awesome brands like Foreo, Caudalie, Smashbox, Rodial, and loads more!
I think it’s super impressive for a first attempt, and it’s really affordable at just £55 as well. I think this will sell out really fast, so make sure you order soon if you want to get your hands on one.
07. Diptique Advent Calendar – £300
This year, I’ve tried to keep my top advent calendar picks fairly affordable, but I just couldn’t resist adding this little beauty from luxury brand, Diptique. I don’t think the calendar is quite as lovely looking as usual, which is why it only made it to number 7, but it houses 25 amazing little Diptique treats.
The calendar this year is monochrome and ties up with a beautiful ribbon. Behind each door, you’ll find a miniature version of one of their best selling candles, fragrances, skincare, and body products. And on Christmas Day there’s a larger sample of one of this year’s limited edition Christmas candles for you to find!
I love that Diptique release an advent calendar every year, as it’s a great way for us to try out some of their products without splashing out on full-sizes that we might end up not liking. What more can I say other than I love it?!
This year Lancôme have gathered all of their brands together and made an advent calendar that contains lots of different products from each of them. How cool is that?! I love the design of the calendar. It looks like a big house, or block of flats, that’s all trimmed up for Christmas. I love the blue, red, and gold colour-scheme, and that it’s all tied up with a ribbon. It’s very Christmassy!
Inside the calendar, you’ll find a selection of lovely makeup, skincare, and fragrance from well-known brands like YSL, Lancôme, and Ralph Lauren, and as it’s sold exclusively at Boots, it should be fairly easy to track one down. I think Lancôme has done a great job with this calendar, as it has some amazing products hidden inside. My favourites are Victor & Rolf’s Flower Bomb EDP, Lancôme’s Hypnose Mascara, and YSL’s Black Opium EDP.
The calendar is priced at £95, but I think that shows great value for money when you consider the brands you’ll find inside. Another brilliant option.
05. M&S Beauty & Makeup Advent Calendar – £35 when you spend £35 on home or beauty
In at number 5 this year is this gorgeous little advent calendar from M&S! Now, this would have scored a lot higher this year if it wasn’t for the design. As I mentioned before, it’s absolutely gorgeous, but you have to keep moving all the different boxes around to get to the correct day, and that usually results in all the boxes falling out. Not very practical!
The products inside the calendar are just fantastic though, and you’ll find products from great brands like Emma Hardie, Ren, Pixi, Nuxe, and many more. And it’s probably the most affordable advent calendar on the market too, as it comes in at just £35 … wow! You do have to spend £35 across M&S’s home or beauty sections first, but that’s pretty easy to do at this time of year as you could just buy a Christmas present or two from there, and you’re sorted.
Overall, I really like this particular calendar, and I think it’s a great choice for a wide range of different age groups. I just love it!
In at number 4 this year, we have the John Lewis advent calendar. Now, I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging of this one. It’s the kind of packaging you would expect from a normal chocolate advent calendar, but with a luxury price tag! I do really like the product selection inside though, as it features a lot of different brands compared to similar calendars on the market.
For me, highlights of the John Lewis advent calendar include a mini Nars Orgasm Blush, a full-size MAC Lip Intensity Lipstick, Sarah Chapman’s Morning Facial, and Laura Mercier’s Radiance Primer. There are just so many great brands included in here. Again, it’s such a shame that the packaging lets it down on the whole. It would have shot straight to number one if the quality of the packaging matched the quality of the products.
I think this is a great calendar for anyone wanting to try out a wide range of luxury brands without splashing out lots of money. The total value of the products included inside is well over £300, but it costs just £149. It’s well worth the splurge!
At 3 I’ve picked out this lovely little advent calendar from Look Fantastic. I love this particular calendar as it’s so different to all of the others I’ve featured in this post. The calendar is made to look like a chest of drawers and has a sort of Alice in Wonderland theme to it.
The calendar has 25 little boxes to be opened, and it has a good selection of both sample and full-sized products inside. Many of these are exclusive to Look Fantastic, so you won’t find them in any of the other calendars. I’m not going to tell you what’s inside, as Look Fantastic has done a great job of keeping it a secret so far But I promise you won’t be disappointed!
This particular calendar offers great value for money, as it costs just £79, yet the products inside are worth £300. Plus there are more full-sized products in here than there are in any of the others. The box can also be re-used after Christmas, which is a bonus. It’s a truly wondrous little product.
In at 2 is Fenwick Beauty’s very first attempt at an advent calendar. And I love it! The design is just beautiful – it depicts Fenwick’s at Christmas time, and I love the pale blue colour that’s been used at the bottom. And all the stars! I love anything with a star or two on.
The calendar itself is very reasonably priced, and it includes some amazing products such as Nails Inc’s St James Gel Effect Nail Polish, Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge For Lips & Cheeks in Powder Pink, Nars’ Velvet Lip Glide in ‘Bound’ and Eve Lom’s Rescue Mask. There are a few full-sized products included within the calendar, and many of the samples are a decent size too.
The only downside for me is that it’s only available in store, and I don’t live close to any Fenwick or Bentalls stores. Sob! There are only a small number of these particular calendars available, so you’ll need to act fast if you want one.
And now it’s time to reveal the winner of this year’s Top Beauty Advent Calendars. Drumroll please ladies … here we go!
01. Estée Lauder Companies Advent Calendar – £125
Yes, in first place this year is the Estée Lauder Companies Advent Calendar. First of all, let’s take a moment to marvel over the beautiful star shaped packaging. Isn’t it beautiful? This particular calendar has 25 drawers to open over the festive season, and includes loads of wonderful products from companies owned by the Estée Lauder group.
You’ll find brands in here such as Origins, MAC, Bumble & Bumble, and Clinique, and the product selection is just fantastic. I don’t think there’s a bad product in here if I’m honest. And you actually get a wide range of different products rather than lots of the same sort of thing.
The calendar is priced at £125, which isn’t the best in terms of value for money, as the products only retail for around £197, but it certainly has the best selection of products overall, and it’s not one that’s going to break the bank. As far as I’m aware, this particular advent calendar isn’t available just yet, but it should be hitting the websites of the majority of the brands included very soon, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for it.
