As I’m a massive fan of the hit TV show Friends, and managed to bag myself and my daughter Stacey tickets to this years Friends Fest in Leeds (woohoo) I thought I’d try something a little different here on my blog and write up some posts revolving around each of the characters in turn.
Today I’m starting with the style icon of the group : Rachel Green, and I’m going to be talking about the 31 times I wished I owned her wardrobe. I hope you guys enjoy it!
01. WHEN SHE WORE THIS CUTE BLACK BOLERO
I’ve seen bolero style jackets and cardigans come and go more times than a little over the years, and it’s safe to say that I’d happily wear one today! With that in mind, I just had to add the black one that Rachel wore in season 1 of Friends to my list of times I wished I had her wardrobe. It’s simple yet elegant and can be thrown on over loads of different outfits. I just love it. What about you guys?
02. WHEN RACHEL WORKED AS A WAITRESS AND WORE THIS SUPER CUTE DENIM VEST
Denim vests were massive in the 90’s, and Rachel Green had quite a collection of them. My favourite of them all just has to be this pale blue one, which she wore over a white tank top. And can we just take a moment to appreciate the super cute floral apron as well? It almost makes me want to head down to my local coffee house and apply to be a waitress!
03. WHEN SHE ROCKED THIS HOUNDSTOOTH DRESS
I’ve always loved houndstooth dresses and skirts, and this one that Rachel wore in the early 90’s is just gorgeous. It could easily have been dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. And Rachel looked as cute as a button while wearing it. It’s just perfect!
04. WHEN SHE ‘BABYSAT’ MARCEL WEARING THIS TARTAN SKIRT AND KNEE SOCK COMBO
When you see Rachel wearing this cute tartan skirt and knee combo it’s easy to think she was channeling her inner Cher Horowitz. But as the first season of F.R.I.E.N.D.S aired in 1994, and Clueless didn’t hit our screens until 1995 I can only assume that it was actually the other way round! Either way, Rachel looks adorable and I would have loved to have recreated this look myself on numerous occasions had I only had the guts!
05. WHEN SHE LOOKED AWESOME IN THIS CHECKED SKIRT AND DENIM JACKET
I’m not gonna lie guys. I almost picked up a checked mini skirt just like this one that Rachel wore in season 3 of Friends earlier this year! The only reason I decided not to was because I didn’t know what to wear with it. The answer, of course, would have been a plain yellow t-shirt and a denim jacket. Both of which I own. Dammit!
06. WHEN SHE WORE THIS PALE GREY SWEATER
If you were to open my wardrobe doors today and take a peek inside, the first thing I’m sure you’d notice is how many grey things I have. I would actually go as far as to say that it’s probably my favourite colour. And that makes me sound so dull and boring, I know. But it’s true. So it will come as no surprise when I tell you that I absolutely loved Rachel’s pale grey sweater with the blue lines around the arms. It’s right up my street and if I saw something like this today I would
probably most definitely buy it!
07. WHEN SHE WORE THIS SHORT BLUE SHIRT WITH A HIGH WAISTED SKIRT
During the first season of Friends you may have noticed that Rachel wore a lot of blue tops and black skirts. This was because she worked as a waitress at Central Perk and it just happened to be their uniform (look closely at the other waitresses next time you tune in – they’re all wearing the same colours). One of my favourite ‘work looks’ just had to be when she wore a cute chambray shirt, tied up at waist with the sleeves rolled up to 3/4 length so you could see the long sleeved black top she had on underneath. She paired these with a high-waisted black skirt, added one of her cute aprons looked downright amazing. I love it!
08. WHEN SHE ROCKED THE ARGYLE SWEATER
Ok guys, I’m not going to lie to you : back in the early noughties I was quite the fan of argyle sweaters. And I loved this pale blue one that Rachel wore in the final season of Friends. I remember going shopping specifically to find something like this. The closest match I got was something in pink (which I’m pretty sure I still have somewhere) and I wore it loads. I’m not sure I’d wear argyle these days, but I’m sure it will make a comeback at some point and I’ll probably be one of the first to jump all over the trend!
09. WHEN SHE LOOKED SUPER SOPHISTICATED IN THIS ROYAL BLUE HIGH-NECKED TOP
Rachel always looked gorgeous in high-necked tops, and I absolutely love this royal blue one trimmed with buttons that she wore in season one of Friends Again, this was teamed with a black skirt and cute apron as it was another of her work outfits. Just lovely!
10. WHEN SHE WORE THE CUTEST STRIPED TOP I’VE EVER SEEN
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of stripy tops, but the one that Rachel wore a couple of times during season 10 just has to be the loveliest I’ve ever seen. I’ve tried to find a similar one here in the UK on several occasions but I’ve never managed to track one down. It’s such a shame as something like this would most definitely fit right in with today’s fashions!
11. WHEN SHE WORE THIS SEXY LITTLE BLACK DRESS
Rachel always looks good in a LBD, and I think it’s fair to say that a lot of other people do too. Which is why I think I could pull of this particular look. Although in a much less sexy, sophisticated way of course. Isn’t the dress just stunning?!
12. WHEN SHE WORE A CUTE DENIM VEST OVER A LONG SLEEVED BLACK TOP
Here’s another denim vest I loved. This time Rachel wore it over a long sleeved black top, black mini skirt and tights. It would have been perfect for the winter months back then, and it would still work quite well now. Oh, and notice how she has yet another cute apron? I wish I had a collection like hers!
13. WHEN SHE WORE THIS GORGEOUS PRINTED WRAP DRESS
You can’t deny that Rachel was the queen of the wrap dress during the days of Friends, and one of my favourites was the one she was wearing when Joey took her out to a restaurant and told her he had feelings for her. I think she looked stunning in it and if I could pull off a wrap dress myself then I would want it in my own wardrobe for sure!
14. WHEN SHE DRESSED DOWN IN A BLACK AND WHITE BASEBALL TEE
Sometimes, simple is best, and this baseball t-shirt and jeans is a great look. I would totally wear this today for lounging around at home.
15. WHEN SHE ROCKED A TEE WITH THE COOKIE MONSTER ON THE FRONT
Ok, it may seem a little strange that I added this t-shirt that Rachel wore with a picture of the Cookie Monster on the front to a list of items I’d have loved to have had in my wardrobe from 1994 to 2004. But I’ve loved the Cookie Monster ever since my mum introduced me to Sesame Street as a toddler, and I don’t think that will ever change. I would have happily worn this t-shirt in the early noughties, and I still would now. It’s so cute!!
16. WHEN SHE WORE THIS CUTE AND COMFY LOOKING GREY KNIT AND JEANS
Even when she’s not dressing up Rachel still manages to look fantastic. One of my all time favourite outfits that she wore on the show was this cute and comfy looking grey knit and jeans combo. Both are wardrobe staples and so easy to wear that even I can pull them off! Although I’m not sure I’ve ever looked this good while doing so …
17. WHEN SHE LOOKED FABULOUS IN THIS RED CHECKED SHIRT
Checked shirts are another thing that never seem to go out of style, and I thought Rachel looked adorable in this bright red one she wore in season 6 of Friends. I think it’s fair to say that this one of her best casual looks ever, and such an easy one to recreate at home.
18. WHEN SHE LOOKED PRETTY IN PLAID
Rachel always looks brilliant in plaid, and blue seemed to be her colour of choice. I absolutely loved the shirt she’s wearing here, although I would never have paired it with the huge Matrix-style leather jacket that she did. Other than that, I love the entire ensemble!
19. WHEN SHE WORE THIS SUPER CUTE SEMI-SHEER TOP
I’ve always had a soft spot for pretty, really girly looking tops, so this one that Rachel wore when her sister Amy came to stay during the final season of F.R.I.E.N.D.S is right up my street! I love everything about it – the gorgeous colour, the detailing, the gorgeous neckline – the list goes on. This is another piece that would still look on-trend today.
20. WHEN SHE ROCKED THIS PLAID JACKET
I’ve always loved the cute plaid jacket that Rachel wore a couple of times during season 1 of Friends. It’s in a gorgeous blue colour and really suits Rachel (and she even uses it as part of her Central Perk uniform, which is fab). I think plaid jackets should be a thing again next year. I’d buy one in a heartbeat. How about you guys?!
21. WHEN SHE WORE THIS GORGEOUS PATTERNED SHIFT DRESS
Rachel always looks gorgeous when she wears shift dresses, and this patterned one is my favourite of all the ones she wore on the show. Again, I think you could wear this today and not look out of place. It just shows that classic pieces really do stand the test of time.
22. WHEN SHE ROCKED THIS BLACK CROP TOP
I could never have gotten away with wearing cute crop tops like this (ever) as I have Scoliosis, which is a curvature of the spine, and one of my hips sticks out more than the other. A girl can dream though. And if I had the perfect body then I would most definitely want to wear this!
23. WHEN SHE ROCKED THE COLOR-BLOCK TREND WAY BEFORE IT BECAME A ‘THING’
When Beyonce wore a gorgeous black and white color-block jumpsuit by Osman to the Grammy’s back in 2013 she was most definitely channeling her inner Rachel, who actually rocked the color-block trend way back in season 2 of Friends (1996). I’m sure you guys will agree that she looked stunning in this gorgeous black and white number!
24. WHEN SHE WORE THIS USA TOP WITH BLACK SHORTS AND TIGHTS
Remember a few years ago when all the young girls were wearing shorts with tights? It reminded me of the time Rachel wore a cute white top with ‘USA’ emblazoned across the front with black shorts and tights. I always thought she looked stunning in that particular outfit, and even today you could just about get away with wearing something like this.
25. WHEN SHE WORE THIS PATTERNED VEST AND BOOT CUT JEANS
The very last outfit that Rachel wore on Friends wasn’t a particularly showstopping one, but I actually really liked it. The top is a simple brown vest with a pattern splashed across it, paired with boot cut jeans in an absolutely gorgeous shade of blue. I would have happily worn both pieces in the early noughties!
26. WHEN SHE WORE THIS WHITE TOP WITH A DENIM MINI
A simple white top and a denim mini still look as good today as they did back in the early noughties. Although I don’t think I’d wear them with a pair of black boots nowadays. I still love the whole outfit though. Kudos to Rachel for her impeccable taste in clothes!
27. WHEN SHE WORE THIS UBER TOP WITH CRISS-CROSS DETAILING
I’m not usually a fan of tops with fussy necklines and detailing, but this one that Rachel wore during season 10 of Friends is actually really pretty so I just had to include it! There’s something kinda sexy, but not too OTT with the criss-cross detail on it, wouldn’t you agree? And it also shows that Kim Kardashian isn’t creating style as everyone thinks she is – she’s just copying Rachel’s!
28. WHEN SHE WORE THIS STUNNING CHINESE KIMONO DRESS
When Rachel wore this beautiful Chinese kimono dress to Phoebe’s bachelorette party I wanting to rush out and buy it for myself! It’s absolutely gorgeous and even has little sleeves, which is something I like to have as I hate my arms! The shoes Rachel wore with the dress were absolutely stunning too (although I don’t have a picture of them to share with you guys). This is another classic outfit that would still look great today.
29. WHEN WE WONDERED IF SHE’D GOT OFF THE PLANE IN THIS SEXY BLACK AND WHITE OUTFIT
I’m sure you guys will agree that, on paper, this isn’t a great look. But somehow Rachel managed to pull it off and look amazing. It’s such a 90’s throwback look, but it’s great. Even now I’d love to recreate this look at home but I’m pretty sure I would look a bit silly and like I was trying to be someone I’m not.
30. WHEN SHE GOT THE PROMOTION BECA– — USE SHE DRESSED FOR THE JOB SHE WANTED
Of all Rachel’s gorgeous work outfits I think this gorgeous white shirt and black blazer is my favourite. She never fails to look amazing when she dresses in classic pieces and with this outfit it really shows. I love it!!
31. AND FINALLY, WHEN SHE WORE THIS STUNNING BLACK TOP WITH THE WHITE SLEEVES AND COLLAR
I remember the first time episode 8 of season 10 aired here in the UK and I saw Rachel wearing this stunning black top. I loved it and spent the following weeks looking at similar pieces on the high street. In the end I didn’t pick one up, but I was disappointed that there hadn’t been anything like this around when I was at school a couple of years earlier, as I would definitely have been able to get away with wearing it as part of my uniform. It was bang on trend, but still looked super smart. I told you Rachel always looked great in black and white didn’t I?!
And there you have it guys, the 31 times I wished I owned Rachel Green’s wardrobe. There were probably more than 31 times if I’m honest, but these were the ones that instantly sprung to mind when I decided I was going to write this post.
Which of Rachel’s outfits do you like the best?
