Up until a couple of years ago having a baby shower wasn’t really a ‘thing’ here in the UK. Nowadays though, I seem to be invited to one every few weeks! And as people always tell me how much they love my gifts whenever I attend a baby shower, I thought I’d put together a post chock full of awesome gift ideas that are bound to go down a treat with the mum (and dad) to be. I hope you guys like the things I’ve picked out …
First up I’ve picked out this colourful set of Milestone Baby Cards from My 1st Years. These are all the rage at the moment, and are added to a photograph to capture a little one’s most important milestones. From their first time sleeping through the night to their monumental first footsteps, this gorgeous pack of cards have got you covered!
All mum and dad have to do is write the date these ‘firsts’ happen in the space provided on each card, and simply place them in the frame when they take a photograph of their little one. It’s such a cute way of remembering exactly when certain things happen, and I wish I’d had a pack of these cards when my two were babies. I love them.
If you’re like me and like to give handmade items as gifts then how about choosing one of these adorable nappy cakes from Etsy? The one I’ve chosen to show you in this post includes a super cute plush zebra toy, but there are absolutely hundreds of different types available if this one isn’t really your cup of tea.
A nappy cake is basically a gift that is made up to look like a cake, but is made up from various different items such as disposable nappies, baby clothes and cuddly toys. This particular nappy cake has two tiers, and has the following ingredients:
- 21 Pampers Disposable Nappies in a size 3
- 1 White Baby Fleece Wrap
- 1 Body Suit
- 1 100% Cotton White Muslin
- 1 Pair of Booties
- 1 Pair of Scratch Mitts
- 1 Keepsake Rose
- 1 Cute Plush Zebra
Each nappy cake is handmade to order and comes nicely presented on a silver cake board and will be gift wrapped in cellophane with a gift tag. I think it looks awesome! What do you think?
Baby books are always popular gifts to give at a baby shower, but my absolute favourite of all the ones available just has to be this Bump to Birthday journal from Not on the High Street. This is a combined pregnancy and first year journal that provides week-by-week information on the developing bump with prompts for mum and dad to tell their own story and record all the lovely unique experiences about the pregnancy.
The book also contains spaces for photographs and scan images and records loads of important information such as things that happened during the pregnancy, hopes and dreams and the birthing experience. There are also sections to record all the things that happen in the first year of baby’s life such as their first smile and movements, as well a monthly weight and height chart. It really is a great way to keep a record of all the precious moments that might otherwise be easily forgotten.
One of the main reasons I love this particular book is because of how brightly coloured and durable it is. I’ve given a few of these as gifts and they are always very well received. The one pictured in my post is actually the old version of this book, and it’s now been updated in lovely new green-blue colours, but there may still be places where you can get the older style of book if you wished.
Being the sort of person who enjoys taking a nice long soak in the bath, I very often treat my friends and family to gift sets that are designed to give them the pamper they deserve. One of my favourites just has to be this Mummy & Me Pamper Kit from John Lewis, which contains various pampering goodies for both new mum and baby.
For mum you’ll find a bath soak, which is great for soothing tired muscles at the end of a long day and a miracle oil, which not only leaves skin feeling beautifully moisturized, but helps prevent stretch marks too!
And for baby there’s an all-in-one shampoo and body wash which creates masses of creamy bubbles, a baby lotion to soothe dry skin and a nappy barrier cream which I’m told is absolutely amazing! I’ve gifted this particular set a few times now and it’s always gone down well with the mum-to-be so I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a present to take to a baby shower or something to give a new mum.
If there’s one thing I wished I’d had when I was both pregnant, and at home with a newborn, it would have had to have been a nursing pillow. Their shape is ergonomically designed to sit comfortably around you whilst pregnant, offering support and extra comfort. As I have scoliosis (a curvature of the spine) I think this would have helped prevent some of the terrible back ache I had while I was pregnant.
Once baby arrives, the pillow can be used to sit comfortably around you at feeding time, helping provide the correct posture and support for both mum and little one, no matter whether they’re being breast or bottle fed. Nursing pillows can also be used for many other things as baby grows – one example being to sit baby into the arch of the pillow and using it as a support aid. It’s so multi-functional!
The pillow I picked to feature in this gift guide is from Baroo and features their ‘Tweet Dreams’ design. It’s super cute! And the internal padding of this particular pillow is made from fibres that don’t lose their shape or compactness over time, making it fantastic value for money. I think most mums would really appreciate a gift like this.
One of the most exciting parts of pregnancy (I think) is when you go for an ultrasound scan, as it means you get to see your baby! Most people purchase a scan picture at this time, and I think a very special photo frame to keep this very special picture in makes a brilliant baby shower gift.
I particularly like this folding white wood frame from My 1st Years, as it says ‘Baby’s Scan … a new life begins’ on the left hand side, and then you place the photo on the right hand side. There’s even room underneath the picture for some personalisation, which I think is the perfect finishing touch. I love getting gifts like this, and I know my friends do too. So I know it would be something you could buy that would be sure not to disappoint. It’s just lovely!
Another charming handmade item I just absolutely love is this cloud mobile with pom pom detail! It’s perfect for adding a bit of character to any nursery and helping baby to drift off to sleep. Each of the clouds on the mobile are hand stitched, including the happy little face, and filled with a soft toy filling. The mobile includes one large cloud, two smaller clouds and four coloured pom poms.
The clouds and pom poms hang from a hoop wrapped with double white wool, and it is posted out fully assembled and ready to hang. It even includes a small white ceiling hook so it can be easily hung either by the length of thread or with your own ribbon or thread. Isn’t it just gorgeous?!
When both Stacey and Oscar were little they would happily lay on their play mats for hours on end, so it’s something I always recommend when people ask me what sorts of things they could buy as a baby shower gift. The one I’ve chosen to include in this gift guide is from My 1st Years, and it’s lovely and fluffy and shaped like an elephant. How cute?!
The play mat features four squishy legs and a curled-around trunk, and is the perfect size for younger babies to lay on and older babies to roll around on. It’s just perfect for play time! I’ve shown the mat here in a beautiful blue colour, but it’s also available in white. I think it makes such a unique gift idea and is sure to look adorable in any nursery or bedroom. I actually want one for myself! Hehe.
When I’m buying baby shower gifts I usually avoid buying clothes as I always find that other people go down that route. However, I couldn’t resist adding this gorgeous snowy sleepsuit gift set from the White Company to this list as it’s absolutely adorable!
Hand-chosen by the White Company from their newborn collection, this beautiful gift set includes their pure-cotton Snowy Penguin Sleepsuit, which is covered in little illustrated penguins, and their silky soft Snowy Penguin Comforter. Both are ideal for ensuring baby sleeps soundly through the night. The items come presented in a beautiful white gift box, wrapped up in white ribbon. Gorgeous!
I think it’s safe to say that new mums can never have too many blankets, and I love to give these Sherbert Polka Dot blankets from Clair de Lune as gifts as they not only look absolutely beautiful, but they’re fantastic quality and wash really well too. These knitted blankets are available in 3 different colours: pink, grey and blue, and are made from 100% cotton.
They are ideal for using as a pram blanket, moses basket blanket, or for just covering baby with if they fall asleep on the sofa or floor in the day time. I think they’re probably the cutest blankets I’ve ever seen, and they always go down well when I give them as gifts.
I couldn’t write a post on baby shower gift ideas without including a cuddly toy, and at the moment I’m loving this beautiful Silver Bashful Bunny Toy from My 1st Years! The bunny is a soft, snuggly friend who can be taken anywhere and everywhere by it’s long, floppy ears, and will bring a touch of playfulness to a little ones soft toy collection.
Whether they’re just relaxing at home, or taking it with them on big adventures, it’s sure to bring lots of fun and oodles of comfort. It’s simply adorable! The bunnies shirt can also be personalised with baby’s name if you know what mum and dad are going to be calling it, which I think adds a little something extra to an already wonderful gift.
If you’ve had a baby yourself, or your friends and family members have, then you’ll probably be familiar with a certain Sophie the Giraffe. Sophie was created in France in 1961 to help teething babies get a little relief, and she’s still as popular with mums and dads today as she was back then.
Lots of my friends like to give Sophie teethers as baby shower gifts as she is trusted by parents everywhere. Some of the features I really like about this particular teether is that it’s made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea tree. It’s non-toxic, so it’s safe for baby to chew on. Sophie has a bumpy head to help soothe sore, teething gums and she makes an amusing squeak when squeezed.
I’m sure you’ll agree that Sophie is super cute as well, and I don’t think you could go wrong by treating a baby to something like this. Not many things are made exactly the same now as they were over 50 years ago so I think that shows just how brilliant Sophie the Giraffe Teethers are. Just fabulous!
Last year Oscar was gifted a beautiful 3 piece Twinkle Twinkle Breakfast set from Prezzybox, and he absolutely loves it! The set includes a mug, bowl and plate with the words ‘twinkle twinkle little star do you know how loved you are?’ in a stunning gold and silver font upon a white background. They also have sweet little moon, star and cloud motifs all over them which compliment the text perfectly.
The set can also be personalised with the baby’s name, which will appear on the front of each piece. It makes for a fantastic baby shower gift that can either be used by the child later on in life or kept on display in the home. It really is stunning and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Every new mum needs a change bag for when she’s out and about with her new baby. And I absolutely love this stylish tote bag with penguin design from Pink Lining. I think it will really appeal to the modern, fashion concious mum who likes chic and sophisticated looking pieces that are also super practical.
This particular change bag is nice and roomy, and it has a zip pocket on the front that is perfect for slipping cash or a mobile phone into, and the internal features include 2 removable insulated bottle holders, 2 nappy pockets, pen holder, key fob, mirror, phone pocket, small zip pocket, padded changing mat and a wet zip bag.
I had a Pink Lining bag when Oscar was a baby, and I have to say that it’s the best change bag I’ve ever used! They’re really durable, easy to clean and look fantastic. I highly recommend them.
When I was pregnant with Oscar my friends threw me a baby shower and I received quite a few cute hooded towels as gifts. These were some of the best things they could have gotten for me as I loved wrapping Oscar in them after his bath while I dried him off. We used them after every single bath, and found they’re a lot more practical than regular towels.
One of my favourite baby hooded towels at the moment just has to be this cuddly duck design one from Not on the High Street. It is made from a snuggly soft lemon cotton and features a bright orange beak and tuft of white head feathers! It comes all nicely folded to look like a freestanding soft toy and is beautifully presented with a cream ribbon. The towel is made from a luxurious cotton velour material and has a super silky soft feel to it. It can also be personalised with the baby’s name!
Cuddly duck is also available as a Baby Towel Gift Set, which includes the towel shown above plus a matching baby bib and bath mitt. It’s a gift that is sure to be loved by the recipient.
I always find that presents for the baby’s room have gone down well at the baby shower’s I’ve been to. And I absolutely adore these handmade elephant bookends I found on Etsy! They come in a wide range of gorgeous patterns and colours, and are great for keeping children’s book collections nice and neat and tidy.
The bookends are made from sustainably harvested wood which is then cut and shaped into an elephant shape before being sanded smooth. The bodies of the elephants are then painted in a grey, non-toxic paint before the features are added from patterned papers. The finished product is then sealed with several coats of a non-toxic, zero VOC, soy-based sealer for protection. I’m sure you’ll agree that they look fantastic, and I think any child would feel lucky to be gifted something as beautiful as this.
If you’re looking for a really useful gift to give at a baby shower then look no further than the Braun Thermoscan 7 Ear Thermometer with age precision! This is my favourite thermometer to use with my kids because it gives a much more accurate reading than similar ones on the market.
The themometer is really easy to use – just select the child’s age and the colour coded display will change accordingly to help mum and dad understand the temperature reading based on the age of the child. So, if the display turns green they will know that the child’s temperature is normal. If the display turns yellow, they’ll know that the child’s temperature is elevated. And if the display turns red, they’ll know that the child has a high temperature.
I’ve used Braun thermometer’s for almost 13 years now as they’re so simple to use. And I always recommend this particular model to all my friends because you really can’t go wrong with the colour coded display. The tip of the Thermoscan 7 Ear Thermometer with Age Precision warms before use too, which stops it from cooling the area where the reading is taken, meaning it gives an even truer reading than previous models.
I wouldn’t hesitate to give this as a gift as I don’t think there’s anything more worrying than having a baby with a temperature, and something like this can really help mum and dad know whether or not they need to seek medical attention. It’s just brilliant.
I love giving and receiving candles as gifts. And I think this one from Shea Mooti is absolutely perfect for gifting at a baby shower! It’s called ‘Give Mama a Break’ and it’s made with 100% natural soy wax infused with essential oils of grapefruit, geranium and lavender to bestow a sense of calm and tranquility.
The candle comes boxed and ready to wrap, and I think it looks really pretty. I have this one myself and I like to light it when I’m taking a nice long bubble bath as the scent really helps me to relax. I love it!
Last year I was kindly sent the Gro-Hush Baby Calmer to try out, and I passed it on to a friend of mine who had just had a baby and she absolutely loved it. The Grow-Hush is a unique portable device that transmits soothing ‘white noise’ directly to baby so that only they can hear it, keeping them relaxed and happy.
The Gro-Hush is fantastic for use at home as part of the calming routine, as well as being small enough for mums to pop in their bag to use when out and about or traveling. The Gro-Hush has 3 different white noise sounds to choose from: heart beat, ocean waves or rain falling on a tin roof. All sounds are set at a safe volume too, so are safe to use around baby. It’s fab!
Another essential that I think makes a great gift is a baby sleeping bag, and one of our favourites is this super cute owl design from a brand called Slumbersac. Sleeping bags are a safe and comfortable way for babies to sleep, as they replace blankets and duvets that may get kicked off or wrapped around them during the night, reducing the chances of them becoming either too hot or too cold or suffocating if they slip down beneath their covers.
These particular sleeping bags come in six sizes – from newborn up to 10 years. And I’ve found that they wash beautifully and don’t bobble like a lot of other brands that I’ve used. They are most definitely our number one baby sleeping bag brand!
If you’re looking for a baby shower gift that’s maybe a little more traditional than some of the other things I’ve picked out then how about this beautiful silver-plated birth certificate holder from My 1st Years? It features a gorgeous teddy bear design in the middle and has the words ‘Baby’s Birth Certificate’ running alongside it. It can also be engraved with a personal message of up to 20 characters long.
All new baby’s receive a birth certificate when mum and dad take them to be registered, and I think something like this would go down a treat as it gives the family somewhere safe to keep it. And it looks pretty too.
Next up we have baby’s first calendar, which is a special way of recording milestone moments during their first year. The calendar is A1 size and wall mountable, and we love just how brightly coloured it is! The idea behind this is that new parents don’t always have time to sit and fill in the baby books I talked about earlier, resulting in those very first moments not being recorded. So with this you just pop the appropriate sticker on the date each milestone happened and you’re done!
The calendar also features an integral thermometer to maintain baby’s room temperature, and if you’re buying as a gift they can also add a handwritten message to make the calendar more personal. It really is a lovely alternative to the traditional baby book.
When I came across this Giraffe Keepsake Fingerprint Art at Not on the High Street I just couldn’t resist adding it to my gift guide! It is designed especially for taking to a baby shower, and is something that all the guests can join in with. All you need is an ink pad and this print, then each guest presses their finger in the ink and applies it to the print to make up the spots on the giraffe!
The image is printed on high quality matt photo paper, and the colours are lovely and bright. Once the fingerprints are added I think it would look gorgeous in any nursery or bedroom. It can be personalised with a name and the date of the baby shower too, which I think gives it the perfect finishing touch. It’s just stunning.
Another gift idea I really like (if you know what the baby is going to be called of course) is this beautifully illustrated children’s book from Wondrous Ink, where the letters in the baby’s name become part of the adventure!
The inspiring storyline uses each letter of the child’s name to show them why they are so special and unique in the world. Along the way, they help a host of colourful characters in different ways, discovering something new about themselves with each interaction. Then, at the end of the story they realise that those same qualities actually spell out their very own name!
Both Stacey and Oscar have one of these books each, and I have to say they are some of our favourite stories to read. In Oscar’s book he finds out he is an Outstanding, Smart, Clever, Amazing and Remarkable little boy. You can imagine his delight the first time we read the story!
These books are aimed at children aged 2-8 years, but I think they make a wonderful keepsake for younger children too. The length of the book depends on the number of letters in the child’s name, with a minimum of 28 pages for three letter names.
And last but certainly not least, I’ve picked out this lovely little set of keepsake drawers from Getting Personal. These drawers are the perfect way for mum and dad to to keep all the little treasures that baby accumulates during its first year of life safe and sound.
There are 10 drawers altogether, and each one is designed to house a different keepsake: like their first pair of mittens, their dummy, their hospital bracelet etc. I think it would make a lovely little gift for a baby shower, and I love the neutral colours the button detailing in the corners. It’s too cute!!
And there you have it, 25 awesome baby shower gift ideas.
I’d love to hear what you guys think of them.
